Mental Health Awareness is such an important topic that really should be discussed all year round.
My Whole Self Matters mission and partners know firsthand just how important a healthy mindset is from personal life experiences and testimonies. We want to share with you that we understand the struggles of life, especially with various situations and traumas that occur (post pandemic-COVID 19 related trauma is also included).
We are here to talk with Christians who from time to time may deal with mental health challenges. We want you to know that YOU are not alone! And in your struggles it does not make you less of a Christian. People can struggle with mental health whether they are young or old, male or female, non-believers or believers. It is critical that we take time out to check in with one another and show compassion as Jesus did. You never know what someone is going through.
The Bible refers to various characters in scripture that at times had minor to major mental challenges (i.e., grief, depression, trauma, neglect, suicidal thoughts). I will name just a few:
- David had his fair share of anguish, torment, and grief.
- Elijah, the prophet, struggled with suicidal thoughts (weary and fearful) at a low point in his life and even begged to have his life taken.
- Jonah had anger and rebellion issues, and Job experienced great loss/grief, anguish, physical illness, and devastation.
- Moses felt anger, betrayal, hurt, and grieved for the sins of the world by the people who were in it.
No matter what, there may be times when we have had emotional challenges in our minds, soul, and in our heart. But we must learn how to grab ahold of what God’s reality is for us.
